Greetings, all!

Happy Earth Day. If you haven't seen Google's homepage today, please take a look. It's a stark reminder of the urgency for us to act. Not in five years or a decade or twenty, but today and now. To move towards solutions, regenerative solutions, that will renew and heal our planet, because at this point, sustainability is an insufficient goal.

We have so many tools. We need to come together, roll up our sleeves, and build movements for our future. Read on to learn about movements we're inspired by, part of, and building here @firestarterix.

FSPODCAST: Last year we launched The Firestarter Podcast and have been thrilled with the enthusiastic response — thank you! If you haven't tuned in yet, you can connect with the podcast on your favorite platforms, and explore the episodes here. On the show, Willa interviews mission-driven entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and investors; thought leaders, researchers, and experts on the front lines of the world’s most pressing issues about designing and thriving in careers — and lives — of impact.
In this week's episode, Willa shares an inspiring conversation with Alissa Peterson, Co-Founder & Executive Director of SeaAhead, a bluetech startup platform founded in Boston that helps build companies, runs an incubator, and facilitates investments that are catalyzing a bluetech cluster in the Northeast (and happens to be one of our clients, too). They discuss the key role of the ocean in climate change, why investment and innovation has lagged in ocean-based venture projects and solutions, and the evolution and explosion of the bluetech space in recent years.
You can listen to the show on your favorite platform or via our website, where you'll also find show notes, links, and a full video of the episode. We've got some great guests and episodes lined up for 2022, so tune in, follow, (please leave a review if you feel so inclined), and we look forward to continuing to engage in and share these impactful conversations!

FSMOVEMENTBUILDING: As you know, we’re sea-deep in research, relationship building, and course-mapping to create momentum in the promising new space of regenerative ocean farming as part of our 1% For The Planet commitment — and beyond. For those who aren’t familiar with regenerative ocean farming: it’s vertical underwater aquaculture with a mix of seaweeds (kelp—called brown seaweed) and shellfish. It has been widely identified as a key solution to climate change due to its powerhouse abilities to sequester carbon, rebuild marine ecosystems, and supply a zero-input sustainable food source.

Join us on Instagram @kelpmovement, and stay tuned for updates!

FSCOLLABORATIONS: On April 19, our 1% for the Planet nonprofit giving partner GreenWave launched the first-ever Regenerative Ocean Farming Hub, comprising a suite of online training tools, a community collaboration space, and a marketplace for seaweed farmers and hatchery technicians. Designed by and for ocean farmers, this free seed-to-sale training program includes interactive farm design tools, gear lists and budgets, how-to videos, and courses — all the nuts and bolts to launch and grow an ocean farm or hatchery. Watch the trailer, produced by our team and incorporating footage filmed by GreenWave and us, and register here!

FSEVENTS: Sugar kelp is a seaweed native to New England. Throughout http://www.newenglandkelp.com/New England Kelp Harvest Week from April 20th through May 1st, partner restaurants, breweries, distilleries, and cafes will utilize local sugar kelp in dishes and drinks, showcasing the culinary versatility of this nutrient-rich local crop. To learn more about this action go to: NewEnglandKelp.com
We'll see you there!

HQ: Moving is a project, right? This April, we moved into new shared office space at The Box Office in Providence, RI, with our impact-minded partners in creativity, Giant Shoulders. Borrowing form the building's website, "The Box Office is a collection of twelve small offices and studios constructed from up-cycled shipping containers. It is one of the largest container structures in the United States [and] one of the most energy efficient office buildings in the Northeast." It's the perfect home for us to continue growing our business — and with that, impact — and live our commitment to caring for the planet, one decision at a time.
On this Friday afternoon, we'll end with the same message we opened with:

Not just Earth Month. Not just Earth Day. Every Day.
